What to Look For in a Great Dentist
Taking care of your teeth should be a high priority in your life. Losing your teeth prematurely or ever can have a huge impact on your life in terms of health and financially. Nobody prefers dentures to their natural teeth and not many can afford the expense of tooth implants.
If you’ve recently moved to a new area like Bend Oregon, or are just getting serious about your oral health, you might be in the process of looking for a good dentist. Here are some pointers you can follow when searching for a good dentist in your town or city.
1. Check with the ADA or American Dental Association. You can find them online or make a call to find out who they could recommend in your area. They can provide you with information about dental specialists, fees, where dental offices are located, and how to contact dentists in your area. It’s also a good idea to ask the ADA about public records for dentists you plan to visit to see if there are any pending lawsuits on record. Typing the dentist’s name into an online search engine and seeing what results pop up is another way to check up on a prospective dentist.
2. Surf the Web. Just type “dentists” and your city name into your favorite search engine, and most likely several local dentists will show up. You can locate their websites (if they have one) to get information on the specialties that each dentist focuses on. You might alsosee some reviews of some of the dentists. If the dentist is listed on Google Maps where Google shows several dentists’ locations on a map, there will also be reviews listed there.
3. The Good Old Yellow Pages. Dust off that old Yellow Pages directory for your local area and locate the “dentist” category. Look at the ads but don’t let the big, flashy ads fool you into thinking that they represent the best dentists. Don’t judge a dentist by how much he spends on his advertising campaign. It could be that a dentist with a smaller, more modest ad might actually be a better dentist than the ones with the expensive ads! Try them out for yourself or try to talk to some of their patients, if possible.
These are some ways to help narrow down your search for a good dentist. One final thing to consider when looking for a dentist is just how comfortable you are with him or her. If you find their mannerisms, office setting, and staff friendliness to your liking, then choose that one. But it’s always good to do your homework first.
